Comment: The Ministry is responsible for the formation and implementation of Norwegian security and defence policy. This includes conventional defence and defence against weapons of mass destruction.

• Department of Operations and Emergency Planning
• Department of Security Policy
• Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI)

 

Justice and Police

Comment: Through its Rescue and Emergency Planning Department, the ministry has a comprehensive, multisectoral responsibility for coordination of emergency planning, where each ministry has independent sectoral responsibility. The ministry also coordinates crisis prevention and management in peacetime and wartime.
